Open Piano for Refugees

founded 2016
"Open Piano for Refugees" is an association for the promotion of public encounter, integration & charity. We are placing freely accessible pianos in public places according to the motto: Everyone is allowed to play. Everyone is allowed to listen. In total, we already played on almost 60 locations in cities in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Donations will be collected both during the public performances and the concerts, which in turn will be invested in the project and, especially, the music institute DoReMi. With our music institute DoReMi we provide music lessons on a 'pay-as-much-as-you-can' basis.

Goals

The project aims to artfully revive public space, promote public interaction and the social participation of minorities. We believe that we help people appreciate each other more and again feel valued themselves. We want to create a (nonverbal) integration and communication platform and ensure a positive public presence of refugees. Music neither distinguishes between religions nor origins. Music connects. As supervisors of the open pianos, music teachers in the music institute DoReMi and as part of our concert mediation for events, we enable refugees and socially disadvantaged people to use their creative potential for a consideration.
